Mayo stands and Ventric stands play significant roles in medical and surgical settings, contributing to the efficiency, precision, and sterility of various procedures. These stands provide a dedicated and organized space for medical instruments, surgical tools, and supplies used during procedures. This arrangement ensures that healthcare professionals have quick and easy access to the necessary items, reducing the risk of delays or errors.
Ventric refers to the larger area for instruments so they support more weight and typically have wheels to enable the table to be moved easily. They also enable you to create a larger sterile field.
The construction materials vary but the superior and longest lasting today is the stainless steel. Most medical service products use the Grade 304 due to its corrosion resistance, durability, ease of cleaning and versatility. It can withstand a variety of harsh conditions without deteriorating or becoming brittle, ensuring reliable performance over time. Additionally stainless steel can be welded creating a strong and continuous bond. This produces a high strength joint tight that smooth so it is easily cleaned. None of the alternate joiners, rivets, screws or bolts are as strong, smooth or as durable as a weld.
The chrome plated alternate is a lower cost chrome plated steel, often tubing, but this type is designed for light duty service. It can get damaged or nicked then rust at any spot the plating is damaged. Additionally just use over time rust can show around joints, fulcrum points or any spot the plating is thin and porous. If kept in a clean environment with minimal use, not damaged you can expect many years of service.

Most stainless steel mayo or Ventric stands are welded and ship complete with only the top tray shipped separately. Other models may require minor assembly but that should be stated in the description.
Most mayo stands have adjustable height by hand or foot controls. More details should be available in the product details.
You should follow local guidance about sterilizing the mayo stand, but a first step would be to use a healthcare-approved or accepted wipe or cleaning product that disinfects as it is used. Pay special attention to areas with visible stains, spills, or residues. Scrub gently with a soft brush or cloth to remove stubborn stains. Rinse the stand with clean water to remove any cleaning solution residue. Any questions contact the manufacturer. Storage should be done according to local code. Your local health department should be able to guide you.
Mayo stands are useful wherever anyone needs tools or instruments handy that, if needed, can be organized according to need or order of use.
Mayo stands are the choice for those instruments that need to be close to the physician or technician during their work. An alternative would be a larger table set up with equipment, supplies, or instruments, but this, due to size, would be out of the normal reach and would require assistance.
Most mayo stands, especially the stainless-steel versions, are designed for many years of consistent work.
The top surface area for most mayo stands starts at 12X19 inches on the small models and goes to 30X32 inches on the largest Ventric Table. There are also single pole models, but they have the smaller surface area, 12X19 or slightly larger, out of concern for stability. Keep in mind the larger the tray and instrument capacity, the larger the footprint needed on the floor to ensure stability. It is often the floor footprint that determines the usability of the stand.
Maintenance should start with regular cleaning of mayo stands using a mild detergent or disinfectant solution. Apply lubrication to moving parts, such as wheel axles and height adjustment mechanisms, according to the manufacturer's recommendations. Lubrication helps maintain smooth and easy operation. Inspect the wheels or casters for wear and tear. Ensure that they roll smoothly and that the locking mechanisms work effectively to prevent unintentional movement. Lubricate them as needed. Contact the manufacturer with any questions.
Store mayo stands in a clean, dry, and designated area to prevent contamination and damage. Consider covering them with protective covers or drapes when not in use.
